RFID - IT Data Center Asset Tracking

Project Details

ODIN technologies has discussed FSTC's desire to provide guidance to members adopting radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to drive efficiency, accuracy, and security. The member banks are looking for a numbering strategy, and a performance baseline. The goal is to create an incentive for hardware vendors such as Dell, HP, and others to pre-tag and pre-number assets prior to shipping. By sponsoring the Benchmark FSTC will accomplish two important goals:

1)    Define a science based solution which any tag vendor can test to for performance certification
2)    Establish a leadership position in catalyzing hardware vendors to action in support of FSTC members and create an impetus for standardized RFID tagging for the industry

The FSTC has the chance to provide great value to their members, many of which are starting to adopt RFID with no leadership or guiding parameters. Sponsoring a Benchmark which has been defined by members during the recent Sonoma and Rockville meetings provides a clear leadership opportunity for  the Financial Services Industry and FSTC.  By taking an objective research-based approach to IT asset tracking, the FSTC standard may well become the standard other industries adopt as well.
